A Breeder’s Approach to Nutrition

As the leading breeder of American Bulldogs, our priority has always been genetic health and longevity. Through decades of selective breeding, we have produced dogs known for their vitality and robust constitution. However, genetics is only half the equation. Environmental factors, specifically nutrition, play an equally critical role.

The Observation: Regional Health Differences

Over the years, we observed a distinct pattern: our dogs living in the United States appeared to face chronic sensitivities such as skin irritation and digestive inconsistency more frequently than Grand Future bulldogs living in Europe. This observation aligns with the significant differences in pet food regulations and ingredient quality standards between the two regions.

We identified two challenges for US dog owners:

  1. Ingredient Sourcing: The US market contains many "premium" foods that rely heavily on fillers and synthetic nutrient packs to meet standards. We found that many domestic formulas did not perform as well for our dogs as the stricter European formulations.
  2. A Holistic View of Health: In our kennel's experience, addressing skin or digestive issues often requires looking beyond symptom management. While veterinary intervention is crucial for acute issues, we believe a long-term strategy must also address the nutritional foundation—specifically gut health and immune support—to prevent recurrence.

We trialed dozens of diets looking for a solution that met our high standards. Here is what we found:

  • Bioavailability in Raw vs. Processed: While we advocate for raw nutrition due to its enzymatic activity, commercial safety regulations often require High Pressure Processing (HPP). We sought a method that preserved the meat's palatability and protein structure without the industrial processing often required for commercial raw diets.
  • Cost & Digestibility Concerns for Air-Dried Brands: We tested leading air-dried brands. While convenient, we noted occassionaly inconsistent digestion in our dogs. Our goal was to formulate a diet with specific moisture levels, proper muscle-to-organ balance, and minimal bone content at a price point that is affordable even for owners of large breed dogs.
  • Heat-Sensitive Nutrients in Kibble: Most kibble requires starch binders and high-heat extrusion. This process can degrade heat-sensitive nutrients like amino acids and vitamins. We prefer to avoid synthetic preservatives (like BHA/BHT) in favor of natural preservation methods, relying on the inherent nutritional profile of whole-food ingredients to support the dog's biology.
  • Species-Appropriate Formulation: We avoid diets that simply swap grains for heavy loads of legumes (peas, lentils). Dogs are facultative carnivores; in our view, a species-appropriate diet should be centered on high-quality animal protein to optimize muscle maintenance and energy, rather than relying on plant protein concentrates.

Our Experience:

We have seen remarkable transformations in our own dogs when switching from highly processed diets to our beef formula. We have observed improved energy, better skin condition, and more consistent digestion. While we are not veterinarians, our decades of raising dogs have taught us that quality nutrition is a foundational pillar of preventative care.

The Solution

Grand Future Dog Food Packaging

We determined that low-temperature air-drying offered the best balance: it provides the nutritional density of raw meat with the pathogen safety and shelf-stability of a cooked product.

We developed the Grand Future Formula to meet the specific needs of our breeding program. By standardizing our dogs' diet, we ensured they were receiving consistent, high-quality fuel. The results in our kennel spoke for themselves, and we decided to make this professional-grade formula available to our puppy owners many years ago, and now finally to the public.

Our Promise: Our entire life's work as breeders relies on the health of the dogs eating this food. We feed this to our own dogs every single day. Your interest in providing safe, quality nutrition aligns completely with ours.

Proper nutrition is an investment in your dog's future. Providing a biologically appropriate diet helps support the body's natural functions and vitality.

Our Commitment to Value

We operate differently from massive pet food conglomerates:

  1. Product Over Marketing: We invest in high-quality grass-fed beef ingredients and strict quality control. We avoid high-cost marketing expenses that would have to be passed on to the consumer as an inflated product price.
  2. Direct-to-Consumer: We ship fresh bags directly to you, bypassing distributor markups.
  3. Breeder Standards: We maintain the quality necessary for our own program, ensuring you get the exact same food we trust for our dogs.
  4. Returns Policy: To keep our prices low, we accept free-of-charge 45-day returns on unopened products only. We stand behind our quality, but as a small business dealing with perishable food, we process refunds for opened bags only if the product arrives damaged.
